Eric said[1] that we should save the lyric quizzes
for when things got heavy again. Maybe it's just me,
but I think the current [M] thread qualifies. So here
we go.

Identify which songs these lyrics come from:

1) One of these mornings you're gonna rise up singing

2) Life's for living, yeah, that's our philosophy

3) The smell from a grill could spark up nostalgia

4) We cut through iron and we cut through mud.

5) My girlfriend's run off with my car

There *may* be a subtle theme, but I doubt anyone
will spot it.

[1] But only as a suggestion, and not as a "core
afper" laying down The Law.

'In The Summertime' Mungo Jerry

'Summertime' DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince

Theme - well, I may be wrong here, but... :-)

Summertime Blues by Eddie Cochran and covered by more than is good for
any song.

Here's a little medley with each line taken from a different song.
Which ones?

I've found a new place to dwell
Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty
I laid a divorcee in new york city
But there's these fears I can't quell

I'm not half the man I used to be
Breaking up is never easy, I know, but I have to go
I wanna live out by the sea
I guess I'm learning, I must be warmer now

An ageless heart that can never mend
I get up in the evening, and I aint got nothing to say
This amusement never ends
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay

Really? I could've sworn it was "good pay". I mean, I've heard the VR
version in the soundtrack of the new Italian job, but only once, while
I've heard the original many times. That was quite a while ago, though,
so it's entirely possible last version I heard overwrote the older one.

Yup. (Written by McCartney, performed by Beatles)

So, if we remove the ones identified, we'll get a shorter version
(reshuffled to make slightly more sense):

I guess I'm learning, I must be warmer now
An ageless heart that can never mend

I wanna live out by the sea
I get up in the evening, and I aint got nothing to say
This amusement never ends

Come on, guys, most of these were huge hits, and they're all from huge
UKian and USian artists.

Correct. Well, that's the one I meant it to be, but apparently it's the
Velvet Revolver version. I wish I had seen this before my last post;
this means only two lines remain unidentified.

I guess I'm learning, I must be warmer now
An ageless heart that can never mend

As a hint, they're two of the most celebrated, popular and influential
UK acts of the 70's and 80's.

Actually, "I'd like to help you son, but you're too young to vote."

They left out some great candidates:

7. "Well shut them books and throw 'em away "

8. "You don't seem to care a thing about me"

9. "Now let the sun shine bright on my happy summer home"

Two of these were sung by close friends of mine.

10) "School's out for ever"

11) "No more Teacher's dirty looks"

12) "Let the sun shine, let the sun shine"

13) "It might as well rain until September"

14) "Sealed with a kiss"
